Go Van Gogh Program
Go van Gogh brings the Dallas Museum of Art to students in schools throughout North Texas. Trained parent volunteers lead experiences that encourage students to look closely at works of art from the museum, ask and answer questions, and make personal connections. All programs include hands-on activities that provide opportunities for individual creative expression.
The McGowen PTA has partnered with the DMA to present the following programs to our students: Me & My World, Searching for Faces, and Arts of Africa .
Parent Volunteers Needed
McGowen participates in the "Go van Gogh" program which is an educational outreach opportunity connecting North Texas students with the collections at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Volunteer parents from schools attend training sessions at the Dallas Museum of Art and then return to their schools to present these enrichment programs to students. Each program consists of a 20-25 minute lesson about artwork found at the museum, followed by a fun art project that goes along with the theme.
The PTA provides funding for the materials necessary for the art project. Volunteers are responsible for their own expenses associated with their trip to the DMA such as gas and parking fees.
Orientation for new volunteers is on Friday, December 3rd 10-12:30pm at the Dallas Museum of Art. Program orientation for the "Arts of Mexico" program is on Friday, January 7th from 10-12:30pm at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Volunteers must attend both training sessions in order to present.
Please let Shana Prugh, shanaprugh@sbcglobal.net, know if you are interested in attending the training, or for more information and bringing this art enrichment program to our students.
